A birthday is a much-awaited day not only for the child, but also for the parents. Hosting a birthday party has become a trend today and hosting it in a park is an extremely costly affair. The best and most cost effective way is to host it at home. Planning at least a month before the birthday assures a successful birthday party.

Choose the theme
Girls love themes related to dolls, fairies and cartoons whereas boys love anything related to gadgets, cars, guns or super heroes. Therefore, selecting a party theme based on the child’s preference is of utmost importance.  If a fairy theme is selected decorate the house with twinkle lights, tie different color bows and ribbon to the chair, paste wands and artificial wings on the walls. In short try to create a fairyland inside the house. For a boys party you can have a cape crusaders and super heroes cape making party and have each child make a mask and cape to wear.

Select the date and time
Celebrating a birthday on the weekend afternoon is preferred by many because the kids and their friends will be free from school and can enjoy the party to the maximum. Saturday afternoon is the best to host birthday parties for school going kids. A parent also needs to check the child’s weekly schedule before finalizing the date and time. This is important because a birthday party will surely drift the child’s mind and spoil the exam scheduled the before or day after the party.

Invitations
Sending out invitations and preparing the guest list is the next important step. Inviting through telephones and mails is an age-old idea. The new trend today is handwritten invitation cards. Design a card using Microsoft Word or Power Point by taking ideas from the Internet and make a special invite that match’s the theme.  Invite all the guests and mention the correct date, time and the theme of the party. When inviting kids ages 3 or less remember to invite cordially the mothers as well. Send the invitation through the child and invite all the school friends.

Games and food
Bursting balloons, treasure hunt, pass the parcel, potato sack relay are some games that make a party lively and enjoyable. Giving out gifts to the winners surely makes the party the talk of the town for at least a week or two. Arranging for pizzas, burgers, chocolates and chips make the party top-notch. Also, ordering a cake that suits the party theme undoubtedly makes the birthday perfect. A car shaped cake would be a splendid idea for a boy’s birthday party.

Return Gifts
Sending off the guests after the party is over is an important task and letting them go empty-handed is against ethics. Hand them return gifts such as pencils, a small toy or a pencil box. Buy return gifts according to the age group of the gathering.
Depending on your budget allocated for the birthday party a professional catering vendor and entertainer can be hired.
