Throwing a Party in the Park

Hosting a party in a Park

If you regularly throw a party in a park you know that there have been many changes over the last couple of years.  Most City, County and Regional Parks have become more stringent with their requirements.  Many now charge not only for the reservation permit but require the purchase of insurance from them if you are going to have a bounce house at your party.  In the past proof of home ownership within the city and an approved vendor for the bounce house was all that was needed.

Getting on the park approved list for the vendor requires that the company be insured with a minimum of one million dollars in liability insurance.  It is also required that a certificate of insurance be issued by the insurance carrier, naming you as an additionally insured on the vendors’ policy.  This certificate is only valid for the day of your event and the insurance company’s charge for issuing one.

What most people don’t understand is that getting a certificate issued and forwarded to the city takes some time.  Most insurance companies take up to three days to issue a certificate, and they don’t count the weekends.  So if you are planning to have a party in a park please allow you’re vendor adequate time by reserving your space at the park and ordering your equipment at least a week or two in advance.  Anything shorter than that and you run the risk of not having a bounce house at your party.   Some parks are more popular than others and may require booking several months in advance to insure you get a space.
