How to Throw a Mardi Gras Party at Home

Throwing a Mardi Gras Carnival Party at Home

A Mardi Gras carnival party opens the door for everyone to act wild and enjoy to the maximum. You don’t have to live in New Orleans to be the part of the world-famous Mardi Gras parade. Flying to New Orleans to celebrate the fun-filled event is not an economical option for everyone. You can bring the essence of the carnival party at your backyard. Mardi Gras is defined by loads of delicious and mouth-watering food, colorful and mesmerizing decorations, unique and funny outfits and parades. Some tips to throw this carnival party include.

1. Decide the date
The date of the Mardi Gras parade is decided based on when Easter was held. Usually the date falls between February and March. Mardi Gras is properly called Fat Tuesday because it occurs only on a Tuesday. So, depending on the date you can organize your party. Organizing it on the actual day will have an added advantage that you can watch the colorful celebrations in New Orleans on television with your friends and get soaked in the party mood.

2. Decoration
Green, Purple, and gold form the base of this carnival party. Purple signifies justice; green signifies faith and gold signifies power. So, it is essential that the backyard or the living room be draped in flowers of these colors. Hanging balloons, streamer and glittering beads all over the garden or back yard area will add a little New Orleans charm to your event. You can even drape the chairs in purple, green or gold clothes or beads. Buy shimmering feather boas in gold or yellow color and give them to the guests.  French decors are commonly used party decors for the Mardi Gras parties. The party-goers should feel as if they are a part of the actual party by seeing the decorations.

3. Food
Mouth-watering and fattening foods served with beverages are surely going to add fun to the carnival celebrations. A Mardi Gras party is incomplete without a King’s cake. The cake is traditionally yellow or gold in color and topped with purple, green or yellow icing. You can give the cake a taste according to your preference. For adults you can serve alcohol, (for the young party-goers’ non-alcohol beverages are suggested) never serve alcohol to a minor, coffee, doughnuts, cheesy shrimp canopy, red beans and rice Spinach balls, gumbo, etc. Seafood is a smashing hit in these parties. If possible try to arrange for disposable purple or yellow plates. And, any menu item in the party color should not be missed. Delicious food can certainly jazz up the party mood.

4. Activities
Apart from screaming in enjoyment and watching a live party, you can arrange for various activities, which can keep the party-goers, engaged and enthralled. Host a best outfit competition and reward the most creative and unique outfit. Remember to mention this on the invitation card. You can also throw beads all over the party area and ask the guests to collect them. Another engaging game can be finding the partners. Give the ladies feather masks to wear and under dim light you can ask their respective spouses to find them.

Remember to add jazz music as this will add a genuine flavor to your Mardi Gras party and make the atmosphere lively.  Above all have fun and enjoy the days festivities.
